Quote o' the Day

“Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink.
But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love.  If you must steal, steal away from bad company.  If you must cheat, cheat death.  And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away.”

Unhelpful

Isn't that sweet...    Humana
"Guidance when you need it most"

Check out the little sign on the counter, though:
"Be back in 30 minutes"

But, what if I really need guidance, like, right now???
hahaha

Some of our tulips

Our Bradford Pear tree in full bloom

Redbud trees blooming nearby

Flowers by our mailbox

This is what it looks like in my neighborhood...
Happy springtime, everybody!

Big D

We spent last weekend down in Dallas, meeting up with family and running around having fun.

And man, there were so many stores and cars and highways, I couldn’t get over it!  And it’s not like I haven’t been to Dallas like, a billion times.  I guess I’ve gotten used to Oklahoma without realizing it…

Texas cities are just so much denser -- population-wise,
traffic-wise, but also store-wise.  (!)

We stayed in Plano, and were surrounded by the most incredible shopping opportunities imaginable!

“So many shops, not enough time.”  LOL

But the best thing we got to do was enjoy the Dallas Arboretum’s “Dallas Blooms Opening Weekend”.  It’s practically a tulip festival!  Wow, it was just gorgeous!  If you ever have the opportunity, go.

Here are a few pix that I took with my old pocket camera…

P.S. re Diabetes

Oh, I forgot to mention last week...  The diabetic cat is doing very well so far.  He is down to only one shot a day, 6½ units of Lantus insulin.  (Lantus is very long-lasting.)  And his numbers hover around 110.  We are thrilled.

(The vet said that before using Lantus, they had to be happy with numbers in the 200-300 range.  Apparently that’s THE brand of insulin to use with cats.  Who knew?)

And Mr. Man??

Well, he is doing quite well, managing his blood glucose levels, thank you for asking.

Oh, sure, he upped his walking, cut out a lot of those evil white carbs, started counting the other carbs, and started having snacks that included protein.  (Nachos!)

But his biggest change has come from using his “Magic Elixir”!

That’s what we call his apple cider vinegar concoction.

You see, on the very same day, believe it or not, I heard about apple cider vinegar from 2 very different sources.  A dear friend e-mailed me and mentioned it, and then I heard Patricia Bragg on the radio that very night, singing its praises.

Well, I can take a hint. Or in this case, two!  haha  So I promptly told Mr. Man all about it.  And believe it or not again, I already had some in my pantry.

So, now he takes 1 T. of Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and puts it in 12 oz. of water with a few Sweet and Low drops, and drinks that before each meal.  And we jokingly refer to it as his Magic Elixir.

(You don’t have to dilute it that much, but he likes it better that way.)

But Mr. Math & Science that he is, my Aerospace Engineer husband wanted to make sure that it was really being effective.  That it was really doing something.  So we conducted an Experiment.  Same constant factors with only one variable.

So, we had the very same meal two nights in a row:  roast beef, evil mashed potatoes (!), green beans, coffee, and Weight Watchers cake.  (Yummy!)  About 50 g. of carbs.

One night he did not drink his ACV drink, and 1 hour after eating his blood glucose reading was 169.

The next night he drank his diluted ACV before dinner, and 1 hour after eating, it was 116.

Yay!!   50 whole points!

Now, if you’re not into the whole blood sugar thing, this may not rock your world, but it sure does ours!

So, pass this along to anyone who may need to know.  But it has to be Bragg's brand.  With the “mother”.  (don’t ask)

XOXO,
Lucky Dog

p.s.  And the Dreamfields pasta?  Delicious.
It tastes just like regular pasta, but with low blood glucose numbers!

p.p.s.  BTW, the Magic Elixir helps with heartburn, too!

Happy Pi Day!

It’s March 14th…  Or 3/14, or 3.14!   As in 3.14159, or Pi!

It always reminds me of the 3rd Rock from the Sun episode, where Dick teaches the Pi Chant at the football game:
“Sine, Sine, Cosine, Sine, 3.14159”!

So Happy Pi Day!  It sounds like a great day to celebrate with a pizza pie for dinner, or apple pie for dessert!  ♥

(Or???  How about “and”???)  LOL

XOXO,
Lucky Dog

Gifts from the Heart

Today’s offerings…  two more ribboned pieces.

The first one is a gift to our wonderful vet.  She has taken care of us for months for free.

Let me explain.  Our male cat, the one with diabetes, completely stresses out when he goes to the vet, and it was affecting the bloodwork readings when our vet was trying to diagnose his problems.  So she asked us if we thought we could take the blood and use a glucometer on our own.

Well, we were already giving him shots everyday, so we said, sure!  Well, shots are easy compared to finding the perfect spot on the vein on the outside of a cat’s ear and poking it with a needle!  Thankfully, Mr. Man is great at it!  (now)

Anyway, every Monday for months (and now only monthly), I would call the vet with the bloodwork numbers, and she would tell us whether or not to up his insulin.  And not going to the vet -- doing the work ourselves --  meant we didn’t incur a bill.

Still, though!   Wow, right?

So at the very least, I want to give her a gift from my heart, to show her how grateful we are.  ♥

And this second photo is the same quote that I posted last week, printed out on the computer, and given “the ribbon treatment”.  It’s for a dear friend of mine.

Too much fun!

XOXO,
Lucky Dog

Mother Teresa Quote

Here is one of my favorite quotations, done with my wonderful new Sharpies in hot pink and lime green.

On the first one I added some shadows with my Tria 30% marker.

(You might have to click on the image and even use CTRL+ to see the details.)

This second one, I also added some highlights with my Gelly Roll sparkle #700 gel pen.  They’re really fairly subtle, and the light has to be on it just so, for it to sparkle.

What fun!

Oh, and both of these are prints.  I scanned the original and printed out copies to play with.  (with which to play, for you purists)

And really, the copies are more lightfast than the original, thanks to the Vivera inks I use in my printer.  So… even better!

So… sparkle or no sparkle?  Which do you prefer?
Because now I can do both!

XOXO,
Lucky Dog

Happy March!

It’s hard for me to believe that it’s March already, but it is.
And Spring is on its way…

It’s not really Spring yet, but it is definitely PRE-Spring.

A few daffodils are blooming, but most flowers (like the tulips) have poked their way through the dirt, saving their blooms for a little bit later.

Even the trees are budding, but it’s still too early for the spectacular Bradford Pear and Redbud blooms.  Still, though, the depth of Winter is over in my book.

And after another Winter filled with blizzards and gobs of snow, that’s okay by me.  I think I’m ready for Spring.  At least the warmth and the flowers part.

(All tornadoes that happen to be listening, you are free to not show up this year.  Thank you.)

Happy March, everybody!

XOXO,
Lucky Dog
